Use Mocha to motion track a HUD to an object in your scene. Mocha (Which comes with After Effects) is a stand alone Planar Tracking and rotoscoping utility optimized for After Effects, Final Cut and Motion users.

In the tutorial below Cassidy Bisher tracks a microphone and stand, puts an animated HUD with text on the motion tracked data for a cool effect. This was done for a music video called, "Coming Home" by Modern Men. You can achieve a similar effect on another object. Watch the tutorial!
